The Morrissey Towers stands proudly in the heart of the city. Thirty two narrow floors steel and aluminum and glass. It is fully air-conditioned and all of its rooms command spectacular views of the city. But as often happens in new buildings little things go wrong. For example on cold nights wind whistles down the elevator shafts, a lonely piercing sound like a woman's cry at a dead man's wake. It is two am in the morning when Dorothy is dropped off by her date, Paul, at her apartment building. She is greeted by the all night elevator man, but it is not the usual elevator man, no he has been killed by the mad man Dorothy Smith is about to get in to the elevator with.
