A well-known millionaire sportsman employs Nick Carter and he and Patsy are to go to his Lodge in Echo Valley to investigate the disappearance of a James Thurlow the columnist of the financial pages. Thurlow is the smartest financial reporter in New York and sometimes tips the authorities off to big stock swindles and for sometime he has been on the verge of hinting at some sort of tie up between certain politicians and some big operators who have robbed the public of millions.
