Germany was defeated in World War 1 in 1918 because of the failure of the U-Boat. In1943 their U-Boat fleet was powerful and they declared that they would not fail again. Anxious millions watched the progress of the Battle of the Atlantic as US submarine after submarine were lost, but unofficial estimates in April put the Nazi losses then at 12 thousand trained officers lost or taken prisoner…
