Luke did a deal with the cavalry to sell some of his cattle for $35 plus an extra $10 to deliver. However nobody except the triple X gang had ever sold or delivered cattle to the fort. Whenever the cavalry had tried to buy cattle from other ranchers there had always been trouble, stampedes or riders shot.
