When the Western United States was first opened to settlers the cattlemen resented the invasion of their territory. There were bitter disputes over boundaries and water rights and the bad feeling between the two factions might have led into open warfare if it had not been for the masked rider of the plains. It was his vision of the future that united the Farmers and the ranchers in a common cause. It was he more than any other man who finally made possible the winning of the west.
