In the autumn of 1903 just as Sherlock Holmes was about to retire to his Bee farm on the Sussex Downs, Dr Watson was sad to think that as they closed the door on Baker Street there would be no more mysteries to solve. But as it transpired there was one more adventure for them before they left. On this particular afternoon Watson persuaded Holmes to take a rest from his packing and accompany him on a visit to the laboratory of an old friend of his. A Professor Jean Boulan an eminent French scientist engaged in very important work at the London University.
