Dinah Shore is the Mistress of Ceremonies, and opens the show by singing Blow, Gabriel, Blow. She continues by reading some letters from the soldiers posted overseas, cracking a few jokes in between. After introducing Tommy Dorsey and his band, she receives a telegram apologizing that he's not been able to make it tonight, but that his band will still be there, who break out into a tune right away.
