Mr. McGlennon, the first mate, has been at sea for five days and the sea has been as still as an ice skating rink. This is a bad omen. McGlennon is discussing the calm of the sea with the captain when there is a huge explosion, they have been hit by a torpedo... A submarine emerges and suddenly men appear on the surface of the vessel and begin firing machine guns at them.
