The place is China somewhere near the outskirts of Shanghai a man made wasteland ravished and devastated by war. Driving through an abandoned village on his way to a camp for displaced persons is Major Roger Mason. Suddenly the glare of his headlights picks out a strange wild-eyed figure who stares then shuttles in to the shelter of an alley. Mason pauses for a moment then stops his car. He approaches the man who tells him he has run away from the camp and if he goes back it will mean death for him and many others…
