For Scott Rainey it all began with a question, one that had been on his mind all day and as he hurried home that evening each step seemed to fan the fires of jealousy that burned within him. There were always questions on Scott’s mind but this particular one had nothing to do with his work as a reporter for one of San Francisco’s leading dailys. Rather it involved his wife Evelyn and another reporter, Scott’s long-term rival, a man named Matt Cregan. Now Scott was certain that the rivalry between them was no longer confined to the newspaper business. His wife Evelyn had been acting strangely for weeks.
