Nick Carter and his detective friend Pete were arranging to meet for lunch when they saw Louie Morrelli the gangster being dumped from a car driven by Slug Barron. When they went to investigate they found Morrelli was dead and a witness said he had seen a man with a big scar across his cheek in the car that dumped him shoot Morrelli. The police had been after Barron for three years and the witness said he was willing to testify. That was before he was killed in an accident…
