Philip Marlowe is in a bar and Louie is bending his ear. It’s been a long day and Marlowe just wants to get home. As he walks down the alley to his car he sees a young guy he recognizes being nearly beaten to death. Marlowe interferes and the perpetrator leaves him to it. Marlowe takes the kid home and learns a little more. Turns out he was looking for Julia Feher who had gone searching for fame and had not been seen for some time. The search had taken him to the offices of Austin Link who ran the Blossom Dance Hall, which was the last place Julia Had worked. Link had found him there and chased him down the Alley where Marlowe found him.
