It all depends on how you look at things. Primitive man and woman knew that certain plants and the bark from particular trees, had curative properties, and so we moderns take their foxglove and cinchona, and we convert them to digitalis and quinine. For years it was felt that mouldy cheese could somehow alleviate the infection in wounds, so today we have antibiotics - and so it goes. We have spent the last fifty thousand years developing a science and a technology that becomes ever more complicated. Now it appears we shall have to reverse the process...
