Midge Sheridan feels like an absolute failure, after the doctor confirms her worst fear, that she is unable to bear children. Midge and her husband Brad, decide to look into adoption, and so they enquire at the local adoption agency. There is a very long waiting list, so when Midge finds out from her hairdresser that there has been an abandoned child left at the police station, she is determined to adopt the boy, Jimmy, as her own.
