Philip Marlowe received the message in two parts. The first form Horace Schindler which with instructions to get in a cab to go and meet him the second was a $100 bill. He is to meet Nannette Collier and go to her place to pick up the cloak of Kamehameha. The previous day Schindler had received an anonymous letter saying the cloak would bring no less than death.
