It is now fifty years since the first picture was made amidst the orange groves of a sleepy little California village called Hollywood and a latter-day gold rush began. Hollywood quickly became a sprawling brawling boomtown and true to the tradition of the western frontier Hollywood lived violently and a few of its citizens lived and died violently with and sometimes without their boots on. The stakes were high worldwide fame and undreamt of fortunes and the passions that poured on to the silver screen sometimes spilled over in to private lives with lethal results…
