It was mid December in the town of Selkirk as young Ned Sealy walked on the main street with some pelts thrown over his shoulder he heard the loud crack of a whip and the yelp of dogs as Pete Harvey, a boy about his own age, stood beside his dog team beating them mercilessly. Ned pleaded with him to stop as the reason they could not move the sled was because the runners were frozen to the trail. Ned loved dogs but his father was not well and there was no way he could ever imagine being able to afford a dog.
