Elliott Wilson has sent a small Chinese elephant puzzle from Singapore packed with diamonds to Mr Craig in San Francisco. Now all he had to do once Hanson was out of the way in Singapore was to get to San Francisco and collect the diamonds from Jim Craig. But Craig was killed before the small elephant with the diamonds safely tucked away in it arrived. And then he discovers that the elephant has been sold and the clerk Evans has no idea of the purchaser’s identity.
