The time honored picture of the artist, is a bearded figure in paint smeared clothes, freezing, half-starved in some cheerless attic - and I suppose his lot hasn't changed much today. That's not to say that fine art doesn't provide a great many with an excellent living... The art dealer for example - very few dealers starve to death. Then, there are those art fanciers on the wrong side of the law, whose occupation can be even more rewarding.
