Professor Morley had taken his students to the Caverns and to a great natural hall known as the temple of Vulvan after the Roman god of fire because of a pit in the centre omitting seemingly harmless vapors. The circular crater was 100 feet in diameter with a bottomless pool of water and surrounded by a railing. But when the students leaned over for a better look the rail broke and all 17 students fell to the bottom of the pit. But was it an accident?
