Mr Buckley of the Buckley Corporation wants Nick Carter, master detective, to investigate Roger Denham to make sure he is good enough to be his son-in-law but that’s not the only reason. The Buckley Corporation is going to build a new office building and Denham has been awarded the contract for the work. Mr Buckley wants to know that he can carry it out successfully. Furthermore Mr Buckley has received an anonymous letter telling him that Denham is already married. Then before Nick Carter even accepts the case he learns that Denham has been murdered.
