Shorty Larkin was unhappy as he rode along the line of fence of the ranch. Frequent cattle robberies in the vicinity meant added hazard to his job, but it wasn't this that bothered him - it was the impending storm. In one of the flashes of lightning, two men waiting in the line of the fence where they were cutting the wire, saw Shorty while he was still some distance away.
