Lieutenant Walter Levinson came to Richard Diamond’s office in a very serious mood. Smiley Brill had shot one of their cops. The cop had caught him breaking in to a pawnbrokers shop and Smiley had got scared and shot. Cops take the risk of being killed when they put on the badge but this cop was Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson the old cop who had taken Richard Diamond under his wing years ago when diamond had been a rookie cop. Diamond agreed to help track down Smiley but he couldn't agree to bring him in alive.
