Our story begins during the London Blitz in 1941. There are bombs falling, building burning, and the city is in near chaos. Suppose during this time, that you'd murdered a woman during the Blitz. Suppose you'd buried the body in the cellar of a blitzed building, under a lot of debris. Then suppose you'd left a trail which showed that the woman, like thousands of others at the time, had left London. A year passed, then another year, and it seemed all was forgotten - so you'd probably be feeling pretty safe by now - like you're in the clear...
