Mark Jackson and Bert Hold are strolling through the wet snow at the outskirts of the town of Selkirk. It's early spring, but the ice still coats the rivers, and the sun has melted only the surface of the snow. As they near a small creek that runs by a log cabin, Mark stops to break the ice in the creek for some fresh water to quench his thirst, and discovers a gold nugget in his cup! With no claim on the land themselves, the men set out to discover who the claim does belong to.
