Milt Havens is a criminal lawyer know as Stinker because of his dodgy dealings and blood money. He comes to Inspector Logan as he has received a note, which read, “This is your death warrant Havens. There’s a slug in my gun with your name on it and you’re going to get it special delivery very soon. From a guy you did dirt to.” He invites Casey to listen as it could be a story for the newspaper but Casey tells him he would only be interested if Havens was actually killed. Havens invites Casey and Anne to join him and his wife for supper later and Casey agrees purely because he genuinely likes the caring, honest Mrs Havens who was wealthy in her own right and used her trust money to do good for charity. As the four of them arrive home for supper a gun man fires at them and Mrs Havens is killed apparently stepping in front of her husband to protect him.
