Singing Jim has begged on the same corner for years and makes just enough to keep body and soul together. He has a license to beg because he's blind but certain protection racketeers decide he needs protection at a cost of a dollar a week and beat him up bad as a warning. Lamont Cranston and his companion Margo Lane are passing by in their car when they see the crowd and the police gathered round the blind beggar. When signing Jim dies from his beating this becomes a case for The Shadow...
