Young Henry Cartaris III and his widowed mother live with Henry's paternal Grandfather. Grandfather Cartaris is immensely wealthy and lives on a vast estate in the suburbs. After graduation young Henry seemed to follow in the footsteps of his late Father. He is a weak sort and quite the playboy of the city, gambling and drinking, so Grandfather finds it necessary to cut down on Henry's allowance - with disastrous consequences.
