Along Arlington Street walks Benjamin, the son of a carpenter working on a nearby job. His father has sent him to measure up some hardware on the second floor. Whistling merrily to himself, he picks his way through the lumber strewn across the first floor, his footsteps echo throughout the building. But when he reaches the second floor landing, he discovers the body of a woman who has been brutally murdered.
