This is the story of Stephen Collins Foster (1826-1864) the composer of such great American tunes as Oh! Susanna (1848), De Camptown Races (1850) and Beautiful Dreamer (1862). Today we celebrate his success but in 1864 Foster died a pauper at the age of 38.
