The Sheriff had left his horse and gone ahead on foot. He crouched, and a moment later he lay flat on his stomach and inched his way through the tall grass at the edge of an arroyo. His objective was a party of three who were camped there, and as he moved a couple of inches more, he could see a masked man and an Indian, but the third man in the camp was partially concealed.
