Bachelor Mother is a romantic comedy. The story starts on Christmas Eve before Christmas 1941. Polly Parish has just been fired from her job at Merlin’s department store the day before Christmas but her troubles are just beginning because as she walks down the street she sees a woman leave a baby by the door of a foundling home. She takes the baby in and explains that the baby isn’t hers but the doctor believes that the baby is hers! The foundling home take the baby to Mr Merlin and in sympathy he gives Polly her job back and goes out of his way to help her with the baby.
