Ed James produced this Audition episode of Father Knows Best on December 20th 1948, which was eight months before the show was on the air in August 1949. In this episode the family were known as the Hendersons and not the Andersons as they were to become known to thousands of listeners. The show begins, “In an average town, Springfield, on an average street, Maple lives an average American family the Hendersons. The husband Jim is very much in love with his wife Margaret and they’re both quite fond of their three children, Betty, Bud and Kathleen, which I should say, is an average way for parents to feel.
