The Lone Ranger and Tonto had turned their horses into Dry Bone Flats, a stretch of desert that lay east of the Black Mountains and Arizona territory. They were headed for the Apache Indian reservations, where a rumor had it that the Chief was again making war medicine. Scanning the desolate landscape, the masked man observed that he felt it likely the Chief would go on the warpath now because most of the soldiers had been sent south to the border, to protect the towns there from a gang of outlaws. After the last raid, the outlaws had scattered, but whilst the Lone Ranger and Tonto had been riding the past few days, they had seen many hoof-prints all leading in the same direction - the foothills of the Black Mountains. Indians never leave trails, so the Lone Ranger's keen senses were alerted. Maybe the gang of outlaws were gathering again...
