Lord Greystoke is being attacked. He is thrown forward. Suddenly he is face to face with the beast, which lifts one huge, great arm to hit him. A shot rings out in the dark, otherwise still night, the beast lets out one last immense roar and Greystoke sees the light fade from its eyes as it slumps to the ground. Lady Greystoke has managed to shoot the animal just in time...

In another part of the jungle, the other apes are silenced by the sound of the death cry, realization dawns that one of their own has been killed, but by whom? They must exact revenge...
