Andrew Jackson was President of the United States of America from 1829 to 1837 but this story happened in 1835. It's quite true that for a brief while the United States and France faced the danger of war and an attempt was made on President Jackson's life. Jackson himself helped overcome the would-be assassin who was later found to be insane.
