We are used to hearing Lew Ayres as Dr Kildare but in this story he plays the role of the Amazing Doctor Clitterhouse. Dr Clitterhouse is respected doctor who decides that if he could cure the human psychology of the criminal he would be helping mankind. In order to understand the mentality of the criminal he becomes one first committing burglaries and recording his pulse, respiration and blood pressure and observing his own reactions. He considers his misdemeanours as conducting an experiment on the nature of man and hopes that one day he will be able to vaccinate man against crime like we do a disease.
