Well after the old fellows had purchased partnership insurance on each others lives' Grand Pappy Speirs mentioned to Abner that Lum had asked him how Abner felt. This incident soon became the basis for suspecting that Lum was unusually interested in Abner's state of health since they took out the insurance.
