ABC Special Event

ABC Special Event

ABC Special Event was really a modern day 'breaking news' show. Over a period in August 1947, the nation was transfixed by the congressional hearings before the Senate Committee investigating the Howard Hughes / Henry Chrysler airplane contracts during the war.

These were melodramatic accounts, narrated by ABC's John Edwards, and only featured excerpts, chosen by ABC, from the testimonies of those who had taken the stand.

These recordings gave the listener at home the opportunity to form their own opinion on the expenses fallout, rather than reading a journalist's account in the newspaper.
