Peter Sidney has just discovered that some land he owns is worth $1.5 million dollars. Before he even has chance to tell his wife she tells him that their marriage is over and that she is leaving him for his best friend Nick. Later Barton Drake receives an anonymous phone call telling him that Peter Sidney is going to be murdered for his money and that Barton will be told that he died of natural causes.
