Victoria was crowned the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland at Westminster on the 28th June 1838. She found on her accession that Viscount Melbourne was at the head of the Whig govern. He became her constant companion and a chief advisor. He was her Prime Minister and her Private Secretary and he shared with Baroness Lehzen the Queen's most private confidences.
