Otto Herman Kahn was born in Germany on February 21st 1857, son of a prosperous banker whose home was the center of the financial, cultural and artistic life of the city. This home life developed and blended in Otto H Kahn, his two sided genius, finance and music. It stood him in good stead in the practical work of organizing of the Union Pacific, as well as in the practical and artistic reorganization of the Metropolitan Opera House.
