The 1946 movie, The Yearling, was awarded the Redbook Magazine Award for best picture of the year, and here, the Screen Guild Theater recreates this award winning movie, with the original cast, for radio. The story begins at the home of the Baxters. They've had a hard life since the civil war, cutting out a farm from their little piece of wilderness, fighting for every square inch of ground, and fighting just to keep alive in the harsh environment.
