Usually Carla spent her mornings tidying up the pleasant old farm house and her afternoons in the garden tending her vegetable and flower gardens. But today, right after lunch, Mario had taken the car and driven to town. As soon as she saw her husband turn off the lane into the main road, Carla hurried to her bedroom where she dressed herself up neatly and combed her hair. Then she left the house, setting off across the fields down to the river, across the bridge and onto Willow Lane and Aunt Mary's farm.
