It was early evening and Bill Mead had returned from Stanton late this afternoon after a tiring day, during which he'd gained his freedom, and lost his request for custody of his baby son. He hadn't really been surprised about that, and had known from the beginning that it was a very long chance that the custody would have been awarded to him.
