This afternoon, Peggy and Nick had gone for a walk in the snow. It hadn't been too much of a success since Nick had been in a rather unhappy frame of mind. Nick's mood of depression had prompted Peggy to ask him quite simply if he was in love with her, to figure out why exactly he had called off their agreed marriage.
