The story begins in the hospital, in the doctor's lounge, where Miss Joan Fleeson is being given the news about her father's car accident. He was struck in the hips and was hurled some forty feet. Right now he's holding on, and everyone is hoping that he will pull through. Joan tries to contact her brother to give him the news so that he can visit his father, but he has gone on a vacation, and she has no idea how to find him....
