She was taken into the hearts of teachers everywhere from the beginning of its highly popular run. At last, a teacher was seen as something other than a boring, sexless, freak of nature. She complained about her low pay, got her boss, Osgood Conklin played by Gale Gordon, into no end of trouble and insistently pursued the bashful and unmarried biology teacher, Philip Boynton, played by Jeff Chandler, who was more interested in his frog, McDougall.
